My issue is happening in reverse, when i use my headphones i get dialog back and not just with AC but with a few games like ME3 for intance. So I turn on my ps3, I have sound. Assassin's Creed Revelations > General Discussions > Topic Details.
Otherwise the game performs perfectly for me, with nearly all maxed settings (except for FXAA, High Shadows, and HBAO+) and all other sound effects are spot on, but this issue with character voices is very annoying. (sound system, tv, etc.). I'm experiencing nearly the same issue in my game, however the sound cutting out only seems to affect main character dialogue (Jacob and Evie, and a few main NPCs), during cutscenes and during regular gameplay where you get to walk around but some main characters are talking. Reset sound by going to : "sound settings" on ps3 XMB > " Auto input "> "automatic", Worst case scenario go trade it out for another game disk if there is nothing wrong with anything on your end. It just happen to me... check your speaker configuration, I have 2.1 speakers, but in windows was as if a had 5.1, so b/c that, the game sent the voice to the center channel, but I don't a center channel, that's the reason I can't hear the sound. Would it help if I switched to another language and then switched back? I've also noticed that sometimes Jacob and Evie's 'grunts' while freerunning (climbing, dropping, etc.) Anybody has a solution yet? Sorry for the necro but this was one of the first results when searching for this problem - and I found a solution that at least applied to me.
I'm out of ideas at this point. I hadn't thought of that but sometimes switching something off and then on helps, at least with Windows (i.e. If it persists, uninstall and reinstall the game data.
